[edit] 25 ways to save money!
Here are 25 ways to save money:
- Make it automatically. Before my paycheck, much of it is diverted to my 401 (k) and savings.
- Keep the minimum checking account funds. We make our money work for us to target additional funds in our savings account, where you will earn more interest than in our current account.
- Do not pay bank fees! I use my bank account free, automatic deposits of checks free, and returns for free for all ATM fees. I will not pay for these services. (And the bank USAA, which is amazing, the bank that you have the right!). I also use ING, which is another great on-line bank with outstanding interest rates. ING $ 25 referral bonus.
- The use of rewards credit cards. I get cash back on every purchase and pay the card off every month, so do not pay any fee rates. I recommend your prize, but only if there is no existing credit card debt and can pay the balance every month! Here are 10 reasons why credit cards are good. I use a gas rewards card, and other cash back cards to maximize returns.
- Actively seek out deals. It does not hurt to try to find a better offer, or ask for a better offer from your service provider. Find out how I can save $ 1,000 through two phone calls. I am also actively looking for other money-saving deals that can net me free money through registrations and referrals.
- Use a programmable thermostat. Programmable thermostats save 10-20% on bills for heating and cooling. If we are not at home, whether we are sleeping, our house is a bit warmer or cooler, depending on the season. We save a significant amount of our tools in comparison to our neighbors!
- Use ceiling fans, floor fans and heaters. My wife and I program the thermostat to go to the mid-50th at night during the winter. Why so cold? Since near the door to our room and the use of space heating heat. There is no point heating the whole house while you sleep. We also use ceiling fans and floor fans to support the heating and cooling - depending on the season, of course! In our computer room we use the air vent booster to increase the air flow.
- Install CFLs to save energy. Compact fluorescent lights use about one-quarter the electricity of ordinary bulbs. They also need to receive much less.
- Drive smoothly. I accelerate smoothly and very reasonably priced, and I coast to a stop as often as possible. I also use cruise control on the highway. My car is rated to get 26 mpg city and 29 regularly It's not quite hypermiling, but it is not bad! You can also use these tips to save money on gas and use gas rewards credit cards to save money on fuel costs.
- Study plan and major purchases. My wife and I recently did this to save money on vacation. A little planning on our side, we saved over $ 2,000.
- Buy high-quality products. Quality of the components may cost more up, but longer and generally provide better results than cheaper inferior products. Examples of items you should buy better quality - furniture, clothing and footwear, transportation and other items that you will not see much use. I used that assumption to build a professional wardrobe on the budget.
- Generic cases. Yes, yes wrote "buy quality", but you can save a lot of money on general subjects, for which the brand name product is essentially the same as the store brand. Food and medicines come to mind, as objects, where generic products are good deals.
- Use coupons and discounts. We use coupons for oil changes, groceries, books, online shopping, and just about anything else we can find. You can even find coupons on the back of receipts. Great on-line resource Ebates, which is a company online discount. Ebates has the right to join, you can get great savings on online purchases (Ebates review). Now you can get $ 10 just to register!
- Use rewards cards store. We do shop at Kroger, and we "save" at least 10-15% of all trips. (Personally, I like your savings because I believe that the stores really make a mark all their clients to obtain a card, but that's another story ...) We still save a lot of money to shop, so use it. Now you can get $ 200 in free food from Kroger! (31st July 2008).
- Cook at home. My wife cooks very well and we both enjoy cooking and eating at home more than we are going out. We only go about once a month, but when we do, we prefer that evening with him and go somewhere pretty nice. We look forward to eating so much more than eating a few times a week, restaurant chains, including Chili's or TGI Friday's.
- Remains of food. I grew up remains of food, and I still love them (unless they are remnants from when I was a kid! Yuck!). Estimate, save at least $ 20 per week through my lunch to work. It is also healthier, and rare occasion go to lunch with colleagues, I enjoy it more.
- Using the library. My wife and I rent movies from the library almost every week. New publications are not always available, but recently we saw a lot of classic films from the 40s and 50s. My wife also borrow CDs and books, but I still have a lot of unread books on personal finances to catch up so ignore the loan book!
- Parks use. My wife and I love to go hiking. We have 2 great parks nearby that visit us often. We get great exercise and it only costs us a gas to drive there.
- Watch out for things. I treat things with respect and their own to take care of them. This includes doing things like cleaning our house, car washing, polishing, and shoes. Every last much longer if they care about.
- Buy insurance. Health insurance, homeowner insurance, car insurance, and other types of insurance are designed to save you money! Of course, you can end up paying premiums for years and never complain, but in case you need to submit an application, your premium is likely to be small compared to what you have to pay. You'll be very happy if you ever need it!
- Bundles of cable and internet. You can save a lot of money joining these together, and do not purchase separately. You can save more if your phone package as well, but my wife and I actually save money without paying for a desktop.
- The use of cell phones - skip stationary. My wife and I each have a cell phone, and do not use an ordinary phone. We did this for years and never had a problem. Here are some tips to save money on your mobile phone bill, and how to cancel your cell phone without paying a fee for early termination.
- Unsubscribing. We do not get newspapers or magazines. Almost everything you want can be found on the Internet for free.
- Home improvement. Once upon a time I was in Air Force aircraft mechanic, so I'm pretty useful tool. I am most comfortable repairing items around the house, and I always try to fix the problem before calling the unions. But I am not afraid to rent something dangerous and I do not have the tools to do. (typically electrical or hydraulic).
- Avoid debt. We have a mortgage, you do not mind, because this or have to pay rent or mortgage. But we are free of any student loans or consumer debt, including credit cards, cars, home equity line of credit, or anything else. This means that we pay very little interest and are better able to use our money work for us instead of working for someone else. And it is at the heart of saving money, right?
Bonus tip: I actively look for free money and other savings! This includes things like sign up bonuses, rewards, credit cards, and freebies such as free trial Blockbuster or Netflix trial.
I know that some of these tips do not apply to everyone, but work for my wife and I am sure there are many more things we can do to save money, and there are several places where you can plug money leaks, but overall speaking, I think we do a good job. I hope these tips can help some other people out there!
